Senior Center Construction Update

The abatement process began on 12/26. This means that a team of people in hazmat suits will be removing various hazardous materials from the buildings before they can start the demolition. They expect to have this completed by the end of January. There is also the thought of starting the demo process in conjunction with the abatement. This could happen as certain buildings are clear.

There is also much conversation about the utilities shut off. It may be certain buildings initially and then the senior center being last. There is still more discussion to be had with the various utilities consultants and CSU.

The permits and subcontractors are now being lined up to begin work in February. The activity on site will be very busy at that time. We should see fencing and more equipment being placed on the site by the end of January.

Could we have stayed in the center a bit longer, knowing what we know now? Sure, that may have been the case. We expected at that time to start where we are now by mid-September or early October. So there were delays on some forms and the hiring of the abatement contractor had to be restarted due to some issues. It's okay, we are still on track to have a completed building by the first quarter of 2025. We could be moving in in March or April.

While there may be delays along the way, as we have experienced already, the wait will be worth it and then some.
