October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
For nearly forty years, October has been designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, including metastatic breast cancer (MBC), and emphasizes the vital role of early detection and access to timely, high-quality care.

The New Senior Center is starting to take shape!
The new Senior Center will be approximately 23,000 square feet, an increase from the previous 17,100-square-foot facility. The new building will maximize the available space for parking, improve traffic flow and accessibility, and add more functional outdoor space. We are so excited to see the beginnings of the site being built!
Medicare 101 and Changes for 2025!

Online Tools for Contacting Lawmakers
Tuesday, October 15th - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Learn how to effectively share your opinions with the right lawmakers and ensure they are heard. We'll guide you through the steps to identify and reach out to the elected officials who can influence policy decisions. This includes crafting a persuasive message, finding the appropriate contact information, and using effective communication channels to make sure your voice has the desired impact.
Learn to Sw a Grocery Shopping Bag!
Tuesday, October 15th - 29th - 12:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Westside Cotttages (1616 W. Bijou St.) - $20


Learn fundamental sewing techniques and how to read instructions in this course. You can bring your own machine or use one of the center's five machines. You'll complete three projects throughout the class. This course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills after a long break, as it will introduce you to the latest resources in sewing. Topics covered will include new machines and tools, measuring, fabric and pattern layout, marking techniques, and more.
We'll discuss necessary supplies in the first class.
Traveling with Collette
Wednesday - October 23 - 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Westside Cottages (1616 W. Bijou St.) - FREE

Learn more about Traveling with Collette on a guided tour that provides extraordinary travel experiences to must see destinations. Experience with other travelers have enjoyed for over 100 years with Collette, an unforgettable experience while traveling with your
fellow community members.
Tie Dye your Holiday Gifts!
Tuesday, October 29th - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Westside Cottages (1616 W. Bijou St.) - $10
We'll review the basics of tie dye and help you fulfill your holiday gift list. We'll have lots of samples and ideas for a variety of results. Bring any items that are 100% cotton that have been pre washed and dried without fabric softener for the best results. (Synthetic fibers will not take the dye.)
All other supplies are included.
Senior Style Trick or Treating!
Thursday, October 31st - 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Downtown YMCA (207 N. Nevada Ave.) - FREE
Trick-or-treating isn't just for kids! Bring your Halloween bag to collect treats and discover local organizations that support Seniors in our community.
We encourage you to wear your costume
