Did you know Diabetes Alert Day is - March 26th
Did you know that of the 96 million Americans who have pre-diabetes, more than 8 in 10 adults don't know they have it?

First, we invite you to take the 60-second test led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Medical Association and the Ad Council to find out if you're at risk visit: doihaveprediabetes.org

  1. Talk to Your Doctor: Use this moment as a reminder to talk to your health care provider about your
diabetes risk factors. This is especially true if you have a family history or are overweight.

  2. More Fruits and Veggies: Try incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your day! Eating a colorful array of healthy foods can have a huge impact on your overall health. There are some great recipes available including vegetables that are in season this time of year - get creative in the kitchen!

  3. More Lean Proteins: Basic lifestyle changes - such as choosing fish, lean meats and poultry without skin - can contribute to weight loss and decrease the risk for type 2 diabetes. Check out some healthy and delicious ways to prepare these proteins at https://diabetes.org/.

  4. Grain Power: There’s power in grain! Aim for whole grains with every meal. A whole grain sandwich filled with fresh veggies and lean meat is both filling and delicious.

  5. 150 Minutes of Movement: Small steps matter. Build up to 150 minutes of physical activity per week. You can start with a simple walk each day or check out our Y’s exciting group fitness class schedule. The key is to just keep moving!

A Note from Sara:
Most are aware, but my full-time commitment as your Director of Senior Programs with the Senior Center is coming to a close. This will be the last newsletter I send out to you all! This was a very difficult decision for me, as you all know i love what i do at the Senior Center! But, I'm only leaving the full-time position not the Senior Center completely! You are my people in Colorado, and when i am in town you will see me supporting you in a volunteer capacity. This stage of life has necessitated flexibility on my part as i will be living in both Michigan and Colorado depending on where family needs me most. Thank you all for allowing me to provide programs for you the last two years! Best "job" ever!

I am so thrilled to be leaving you in the capable hands of your new Program Director, Krista! I will make sure to send out an introduction to you all as soon as she is on board. I'm confident you will become fast friends and know that she is going to be very successful providing you with only the best! Thank you all again for allowing me to serve you the last couple of years, it has been an honor.
Fun from February
